Saddle Brook, New Jersey U.S.A.

Patrol Division

The main stay of any police department is the Patrol Division. The Saddle Brook Police Department is no exception. Our Department's Patrol Division consists of twenty-three (23) sworn law enforcement officers under the direction of Operations / Patrol Division Commander, Captain Robert McNally.

The main function of the Patrol Bureau is to randomly patrol the Township and be the first responder to calls for service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to the daily functions, the division is involved in various specialty programs as well.

The Patrol Bureau accomplishes its task by operating a fleet of seven (7) marked patrol cars ( 4 - Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors and 3 - Dodge Chargers), and  2 marked police motorcycles (1 BMW and 1 Harley Davidson) on a 24 hour schedule. The division is divided into three rotating shifts. Each shift works a tour of duty (either 8am-4pm or 4pm - Midnight or Midnight - 8am) for six consecutive days before receiving three days off. After a second tour of the same duty, the shift rotates one tour forward. It takes fifty-four (54) days for an officer to complete a complete cycle of tours.

Police work is demanding. It possible to go from the boredom of tedious routine work to the excitement of a high speed pursuits back to the boredom in a single shift. Police work is one of the few occupations where it is the job of the individual to not only seek out the worst parts of our society, but also to attempt to solve some of their problems.

Remember to say thanks to the men and women of law enforcement the next time you have a chance. Its the knowledge that the job we do is appreciated that allows most officers to continue to strive to be true to their name as "America's Finest"
