MAJOR TRAFFIC ADVISORY
We have been advised that effective at 4am on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, the Essex Street Bridge crossing Route 17 on the Lodi / Maywood border will be closed for construction until at least August 2008 and possibly longer depending upon certain variables such as weather. Essex Street will be closed from Maywood Avenue to a point just West of the bridge. In addition, Route 17 itself will be shifted to two lane temporary roadways to allow for construction of the new bridge. While not in Saddle Brook, this project will cause traffic backups and changing traffic patterns that will impact our residents and businesses. Please make alternate plans for travel to Maywood and points east. Garibaldi Avenue and Route 46 in Lodi, Central Avenue and Passaic Streets in Rochelle Park as well as Route 80 East will bring you around the construction area.
CRIME ALERTS
*Northern NJ (including Saddle Brook) has seen a MAJOR increase in the number of thefts from automobiles in recent weeks. The main target of these break-ins are for GPS (Global Positioning System) and satellite radio receivers visible on dash boards. Locking doors is not enough as the thieves have broken through windows to steal the devices. The vast majority of these break ins have occurred in parking lots of hotels and shopping malls, however, motorists should get in the habit of removing the devices from view whenever leaving their cars unattended.
